Back, again.......

Back again…

Sorry, to those of you who read my general ramblings on a regular basis, I have been very bad about writing.  I have been in a rough spot for the last couple of weeks.  This time of year, for me, besides just being winter is the anniversary of the death of my husband two years ago.  While I think I am doing well, it still brings me down a notch or two from where I had gotten to in my grief journey.  But I have gotten through it, it is now behind me for another year and I am back on my journey and doing well.

I have abandoned the Farmer’s Almanac project.  I have been keeping track, without writing about it.  Let us just say, that the estimates in the book are just guesses based on historical data.  They are close, but for the most part, wrong.  So we will move on to other things.

I love my two bestest friends.  Marji and Debby came over Monday.  I was not expecting them.  I had been trying to stay busy all day.  At 4:30 PM, my back doorbell rang and I saw Debby’s smiling face.  She was still taking her coat off when the bell rang again, and there was Marji.  They had decided between them that I was not going to be alone that night.  So they came in and we did some reminiscing and a lot of laughing about the goofy things we have done over the years and it was a wonderful way to get beyond a day that had brought such sadness two years before.  And both of them were there that day, too.  I really cannot thank them enough for knowing what I was going to need and being there for me.

I am digging out from under the many boxes and bags of ‘stuff’ from Maryland.  Some days I make strides in the process.  Others, not so much.  I am running out of space.  Danny brought up the last pieces of furniture that I was keeping.  The sewing machine table and the large cutting table are in the basement.  The four-drawer chest that was in the dining room in Maryland is now in the dining room here.  They came here with all crap from Maryland.  That stuff is gone and I am filling the drawers with fabric, patterns and thread so I can get rid of the storage bins I have stuffed in the corners.  So, I am making progress.

So, I am doing well.  I will try  to do better at writing.

What is Happening to People?

Not Thinking About Others…

I do not understand people these days.  Has living become so ‘me’ centered that people have forgotten the basic rules of common courtesy?  Has our word been lowered to where it does not matter if we have made plans with someone to do something or be somewhere, because if something better comes along, we do not think twice about leaving the previous plans behind to go with the better or more fun activity?  And, if we feel that the new activity is something we cannot say ‘no’ to, are we so thoughtless as to leave the other folks who were involved in the previous plans out in the cold, wondering what happened to us?  What happened to common courtesy?

The sad thing is that the people being left out in the cold, with plans and food and activities in the works, are now hanging.  BUT they have begun to accept that such a snub, such a disappointment is actually OK when they should be hurt or even angry… but they never say a word!  It is a sad state of affairs.

The ‘Golden Rule’ says that you should do unto others as you would want others to do unto you.  I wonder if the thoughtless offender would even notice.  We are becoming heartless and unthinking in how we deal with other people in our lives.  We no longer go the extra mile, above and beyond.  In fact, the less the effort we extend to others, the better.  And the really odd thing is, individuals tend to do this to the people they say are their friends.

And regardless of what we say out loud…. Inside it really hurts.

FAP - February 2, 2013

February 2, 2013 – Almanac Project
Much less windy but feeling the cold after three lovely days earlier this week.  Temperatures today were a high of 30 and a low of 18.  A light snow started early in the evening but is not expected to be anything major.  The official measurement is 0.5 inches, but I think there may be closer to an inch here at the house.  Not enough to plow but good for the ground water.

February 1, 2013 – Almanac Project
WIND!!!!!!!  Temperatures today were a high of 32 and a low of 23.  If I were Dorothy from Kansas, I would have started looking for the Land of Oz.  Almost lost my front, storm door when I ventured out to get the mail.
