Happy New Year.....
I had hoped that I would have had my SSA issues fixed before 2020 was ushered in, but alas, that was not the case. What I did know was that there were a lot of people working to get things accomplished and keeping good thoughts and raising prayers, so I knew it would soon be accomplished.
I logged into my bank's web site on Friday morning, January 3rd... and there it was... my overdue and currently due funds, in the correct amount... in my account. Deep breath, sigh!!! Happy dance!!! Shouting!! Silent prayers of thanks!
I am sure that there are a couple of death flags that will still be popping up from time to time. But I am as back to normal as I can be....
I still went to the Fairbanks SSA office Friday morning to check on a couple of other things and to meet David, the gentleman who has been diligent in working through the various flags. He was delightful and has told me that he is going to continue to monitor my account to make sure that nothing else happens. And I should call him if I run into anything that might need his attention.
Friday Rob and Kate came to the house. They were flying out of Fairbanks late that evening to go to North Carolina to visit Rob's dad and step-mother. Then they will be heading to Tampa, FL for a Tai Chi event and not returning to the frigid tundra until early morning on the 14th. We had dinner, watched the movie, "Noises Off".. an old film with Carol Burnett, Michael Cain and John Ritter. We had seen the stage play here in Fairbanks several weeks ago. Both the play and DVD were hilarious. I drove them to the airport and will pick them up at 2 AM on the 14th!
Yesterday was game night with the D&D gang. I provided the main course. There were also veggies and bread as well as dessert. I made a delicious new recipe with a Mexican flair. It filled a 9 by 13 pan with a base of cooked rice, frozen corn, black beans, taco seasonings, enchilada sauce, and cheese... topped with frozen Taquitos and a little more cheese. I used mild enchilada sauce in the base and then topped it with some medium enchilada sauce. It was baked for about 40 minutes and then transported to Susan and Martin's home quickly so as not to be frozen solid in the 8 minute ride. The temp outside was 25 below zero. It went over very well. Everyone, but Susan, went back for seconds and it was determined that I could repeat the dish again in the future. If I do, I will have to increase the amount I make. Rob and Kate would have liked it, too... especially Rob... and I only had enough left over for lunch today. It was supposed to feed 8!!!
Today I woke up to a lovely temperature of 37 below zero. The warmest it got was the temperature that it was last night. It is going to remain sub zero for just about the entire time Rob and Kate are gone. It was a lazy day for me. I had done laundry and switched bed sheets yesterday, so I just spent time doing some light vacuuming today, hanging a quilt wall hanging, watching the Eagles get beaten by Seattle in the playoffs and am now enjoying a Magnum PI marathon on Hallmark.
Tomorrow I will be doing some unboxing in the morning and then at 1 PM, I am heading back to Susan's house. She has a yarn shop in her house that she and her husband run. She is doing the mandatory inventory in her shop and I offered my services. She asked me to come over at 1 PM to help her tie things up. Not sure if I will be a help or a hindrance, but I can count and write down numbers, plus I am a quick study, so I am sure I can do something that will help her out.
Thursday and Friday are sewing days with the ladies at St. Raphael's church. I have uncovered enough stuff, that I should be able to drag a machine there and get some sewing done. I also have a doctor's appointment Thursday early afternoon, so I will sew until I need to go there. I will leave my sewing stuff at the church and go back on Friday to sew some more and get my stuff.
So life is settling in here. Still a LOT of boxes to open, but I am making progress. The craft room is my priority now and I am looking forward to unearthing all of my rotary cutters, rulers and project boxes. For now that I am back among the living and getting my money again, life is wonderful!
