A Good Day with Friends….
So, today was once again moving day. But for once, I was not the person whose
things were being moved from one place to another. But rather, one of my BFFs was the object of
a move. She had rented a studio
apartment so she could get out of sharing a house with her daughter. While it was nice for my friend to be with
her daughter when she found herself in need of a roof over her head, they both
needed to have their own spaces.
I had made a large pot of chili last night and had gotten
some hot dogs and the like so she could feed the other friends who were helping
her move. I had also gotten some basics
so my friend could make herself some breakfasts. I figured there would be chili left over so
she would be set until she had a chance to do some shopping for the things she
wanted to be able to cook.
I headed over around 10:00 AM, got the chili on the stove
and watched and helped direct as boxes and furniture came in. She has a beautiful breakfast nook that fit
into one corner of her room. This will
be her center for cooking preparation, sewing and fabric cutting. She then brought in her futon frame with a
double bed mattress. She has a pile of
pillows that will line her walls making the bed look more like a lounger than a
bed. She was afraid it would not give
her much room to walk around, but it was perfect. Then a bureau fit into her room and a rocking
chair…. It is absolutely adorable.
At one point there were seven or eight people trying to find
places for things. It got a little
tight, but things were coming from the house to the apartment and from a
storage unit to the apartment, so everyone had their assignments. Once the furniture was loaded, one contingent
of people headed out. That left four of
us to get things settled. The one friend
tackled the kitchen. She washed up
dishes and got things loaded into the few cabinets. My friend was sorting through clothing and
trying to figure out which closets would hold what items. She also had washed her sheets and made her
bed. I stayed out of their way, as the
one woman was determined to get everything put away before she left. I was afraid that she was going run me
over. Besides, if I were the one moving
into a new place, I would want to be the one deciding where things would be
going unless I was asked to do something.
I did set up her Wii to her television and got it connected to the
internet.
Shortly before the last set of workers left my favorite
movers arrived. Marji and Danny have
been working hard to help me move my stuff out of the Maryland house I have
sold. Marji was anxious to see where our
friend was moving. Besides that, Marji
and Danny love my chili, so they wanted to come see the apartment and enjoy the
chili. (They also had some of my stuff
that they had put in their storage unit, so they followed me home and moved a
few more things into my house.) So we
all enjoyed a visit, ate chili to warm our stomachs and souls and shared the
beginning of a new era for our friend.
It was a good day.
But it got even better for me… I got home and found the check for my
real estate transaction in the mail!!
Now it is a terrific day for me!
What a great day! I am sitting with my coffee moving things around and enjoying my space. I can not THANK YOU enough for all you have done. You even sent a toothbrush along and I needed it this morning! I am blessed and very, very happy in my little apartment!
